With over 30 years experience working as a Registered Nurse helping to heal people from illnesses or disease , I have decided to shift my focus into wellness. It has baffled me in knowing that the reason most people are sick is because of their lifestyle. Something they can take complete charge of. We are not doomed for diabetes, hypertension, obesity and high triglycerides. Yet over 60% of the population in the U.S. alone are finding themselves in this vicious cycle called “The Metabolic Syndrome.” Once they reach this they have put themselves on a roller-coaster ride of taking medications that have a great risk of side effects and then being treated for those side effects with more medication.
Have you been struggling with increase weight, lack of energy, brain fog, and just not feeling good about yourself? Then you are in the right place now.
Did you know that just because “It is in my genes” and we are predisposed to these chronic illnesses we actually can turn them on and off? It is simply by changing your lifestyle.
Cardiac disease runs strong in my family. My father had undergone five coronary bypasses at the early age of 60. He eventually died from cardiac disease at age 75. At the same time while in my early thirties I was diagnosed with a high cholesterol level. I had my father’s physique and genes. Was I doomed? I decided to figure that out on my own. I was raising a family of four. I knew if I kept doing the same thing over and over I would not be as available to my children as they deserved. I quit the drinking, smoking and started crowding out my old foods (especially sugar) with healthier vibrant choices. In a weeks’ time I could already feel the changes taking place. I was also plagued with psoriasis and it seemed immediately that my skin and eyes appeared clearer. I had more energy and my next step was to become more physically active. I started to easily drop weight too. Though that was not my goal, I surely was not complaining. At the 6 month mark I re-measured my cholesterol. It had dropped from 275 to 205. I knew I was doing something right. Best of all I started reaping the benefits of looking better, having more energy and feeling stronger.
Due to those benefits I found myself becoming a late blooming athlete, actively involved with a Masters competitive swim team, outdoor cycling and power walking. Before I knew it I was out there doing triathlons in my mid-forties and even courageous enough to jump out of planes.
Fast forward 30 years:
My personal passions continue to be geared towards athleticism. I remain a strong, vibrant enthusiast when it comes to swimming and outdoor cycling. Sept. 18, 2016 I completed my 4th annual attempt in a row at a Century ride. Actually I fell off course and it caused me to add an extra 18 miles, totally 118 miles on the saddle peddling those legs!! My doctor visits are only yearly for wellness checkups.
